Still Here A Night for Charlie (2038) Event
Still Here: A Night for Charlie was a three-night benefit concert run held in New York City in 2038 after archived footage of the November 2021 hate crime against Charlie Rivera resurfaced online. Charlie, then thirty, attended from the front row and cried through the performances. Proceeds established the Charlie Rivera Rising Notes Fund, a scholarship and mentorship program for queer, disabled, and BIPOC young people in music and performance arts.
Background
The footage showed the fourteen-year-old Charlie being attacked near LaGuardia High School by four boys using homophobic and racial slurs. The assault had taken place in November 2021, but the archived recording did not circulate widely until 2038. The repost accumulated 10.3 million views, 4.9 million likes, and 1.2 million comments. Its reappearance drew a broad response from musicians, queer communities, disability justice advocates, survivors, and people who had followed Charlie’s work. Bad Bunny, Laverne Cox, Billy Porter, Lil Nas X, and Brandi Carlile were among the public figures who expressed support.
The Three-Night Run
The benefit retained the singular title ‘’A Night for Charlie’’ while expanding into three nights. Artists and community supporters used the concerts to celebrate Charlie’s work and survival without making the proceeds personal income. Charlie sat in the front row for the performances and cried openly throughout the run. Tickets, global livestream access, merchandise, auctions, and direct donations raised $18.7 million.
Rising Notes
Ticket, livestream, merchandise, auction, and donation proceeds were directed into the Charlie Rivera Rising Notes Fund. The fund provided scholarships, travel support, adaptive equipment, medical supplies, and mentorship for young artists. It later became the financial foundation for Charlie Rivera Rising Notes Camp, the accessible residential arts program Charlie and Logan Weston co-founded.
